IKEA Hits A Home Run

What a whirlwind 2 days we've had. We were able to get some last minute tickets for the Detroit Tigers this past weekend. If you have never have been to Comerica Park, it's worth going to a game to see it. It was bat day, so our 3 kids got a bat to swing around. Curt and I took turns bringing the kids to a shady part of the park as it was hot and our great seats were in direct sun all day long. The Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 1-0 and although it was great to see the players and such a beautiful stadium, I was amazed that these players, who earned millions of dollars didn't seem passionate about what they do, their job.  Loving what you do is
so important! And if you are having fun, that is the key to staying in your j o b longer and living life longer!

After the game we got in the loonngg line to run the bases. I am not sure who had more fun, Curt or the girls.  Caleb was sound asleep on my shoulder. Memories for a life time.
Priceless.

We stayed over night at a Marriott Courtyard and prayed for a pool.  Priceline doesn't share those important details to moms and dads who have 3 tired and hot kids.  I told the
kids that if there wasn't a pool, they could just splash in the tub in our room and I would
add ice cubes for added fun! Seeing the pool and the beautiful facilities made the heat from the
day all worthwhile.

IKEA Hits a Home Run!

Up and early the next morning we were on our way to IKEA . This Swedish furniture store just 8 miles away and does this store rock! It has everything.

Lunch was at the  cafeteria style restaurant. The menu was family friendly.We sat on furniture you could even buy. Clever marketing. Lots of stuff to take in. Its kind of like a giant Home Depot for furniture. Very clean, family bathrooms with kid's furniture to sit on while you wait
and toys to play with.

We got home just in time for my team coaching call for my gourmet candle business. It was an excellent call on retailing our product in which I had the opportunity to feature 3 of our rising star team members. Seeing people gain confidence in their abilities and having success by helping others gets me pumped up and inspires me to try new things in my business as well.

Baseball, IKEA, pools and fun ! What more could you ask for on a hot summer's weekend?

It's Hot!

I can't believe how hot it is. It's in the 90's with a heat index over 101! Our humidity in Michigan is like a sweating jungle but lacking the dangerous animals. Thank Goodness! The Japanese beetles are declaring all out war on our fruit trees, grape vines, and roses. My husband actually gets rid of them organically without pesticides. He takes one of our kids butterfly nets and sneaks up on the unsuspecting beetles. He places the net under the beetles and gently taps on the leaves.  The beetles in self-defense roll up into a ball and fall in the net. Using a small bucket filled with water and dish soap suds he tosses them in. They have been captured and will die in a few minutes. My husband the exterminator.

To beat the heat we went to River Town Crossings to cool off.This mega-mall has everything! The kids love riding on the Huge Merry-Go Round.  As a treat for the kids and parents, we each were able to get 1 book at Barnes and Noble, our favorite book store. It touched my heart to look up from my reading to see each child and Curt with a stack of books, deciding which one they wanted to take home with them.  We spent over an hour soaking up the good words. We love to read.

When we were hungry we ate homemade pretzels and smoothies, another special treat!

I finished my day by talking with people who wanted to make a change in their life about my candle business. I love helping people believe that they can be anything if they put their mind too it. Feel free to check out my online presentation. I love my J-O-B!

Take Me Out To The Ball Game

Wow, what a night!   Thanks to The Grand Rapids Children's Museum,  our family got up close and personal with the Grand Rapids Whitecaps.  Our tickets included VIP passes for the kids to go on the field. It was amazing. It was huge out there on the manicured lawn! The kids ran the bases , slugged whiffle balls at home plate, got their faces painted, and lots more.  Mini Helmets filled with ice cream dribbled down their faces. The aroma of BBQ pork sandwiches wafted through the stands. We were in heaven! With the crack of the bat a foul ball flew over us and clunked on the roof. Curt flew out of his seat, like a big cat, to get the foul ball.  He looked up over his shoulder to where the ball had landed.  To our surprise, the ball fell out of the sky and Curt snagged it with his left hand. Holy Cow!  We cheered we laughed and it seemed like time stood still with Curt holding the ball and everyone around us, eyes wide open and cheering at such a great catch!  Caleb, our 5 year old, held on to the baseball the entire game and he's snuggled in bed, fast a sleep with his REAL baseball, that Daddy caught!  What a night!

Mom Stays Home

Hello!  I am so excited to share with you my experiences from being
a career woman to "oh my gosh, my clock is ticking, we need to have kids"
to 3 healthy children and 2 miscarriages, to "you know what, I really
need to be home with our kids."  Viola! Stay at home mom.

Now what do I do?  I was scared to death to be home with them.
I could easily teach 25 kindergarteners all day, or 10 emotionally
disturbed children but being home with a 4 y/o, 2 y/o and a newborn
scared me and really had me evaluating where I was going in my life.

I was almost 40 and when most women are getting into the meat of their
career, I was stepping out of it to be a "mom".

Yet, I took a leap of faith, believed in the faith and encouragement
of my husband, Curt, and jumped.

Now, I was with the kids 24/7, family 1 hour away, no local
support network, and income cut in half.  And what a jump
it was.

I can't wait to share more about where we were to where we have come.
